Your best resource for funding will be the university to which you are applying. There aren\u2019t many external funding bodies available for undergraduate students. Your funding opportunities depend on the university you are applying to. If you require additional funding to pay for your studies, it is important to research the funding opportunities for international students at your university. If your university does not offer funding to international students and you cannot cover the costs yourself, you should reconsider applying at this particular university.<\/h4>\n

Some even offer full ride scholarships<\/em>, which cover all costs. Certain merit-based scholarships<\/em> can be guaranteed scholarships for which you automatically qualify. Other times you do need to apply for them yourself. Your university\u2019s website should offer more information about the necessary forms and deadlines for your application.<\/p>\n

Need-based financial aid<\/h5>\n

Your need-based financial aid\u00a0is calculated depending on your family\u2019s income and expenses. Based on the information you provide, universities come up with an Estimated Family Contribution (EFC) which determines the amount your family is able to contribute towards your university education from a university’s\u00a0published cost of attendance and the amount the university will have to contribute. If you can pay the full cost of attendance, you will receive no need-based financial aid.<\/p>\n

Dozens of\u00a0universities will fund the full demonstrated financial need of admitted international students. Some universities are\u00a0need-blind<\/em>\u00a0and do not base their admissions decision on your financial circumstances. These universities are often highly competitive and often require proof of sufficient funds in order to apply.<\/p>\n

Merit-based funding<\/h5>\n

These scholarships are awarded\u00a0on conditions of merit, such as grades, admissions exam results, or performing arts talents. Certain activities, such as community service or volunteering, may also count towards a scholarship. You will find the exact requirements on your university\u2019s website.<\/p>\n

Diversity funding (niche scholarships)<\/h5>\n

Most American universities value a diverse student body. Some universities offer scholarships to students from a particular background to stimulate campus diversity. They might be based on any type of applicant criteria, such as: gender, country of origin, ethnicity, religious denomination, medical conditions or learning disabilities, and particular talents.<\/p>\n
