Fulbright U.S. Student Program

Stichting Fulbright Commission the Netherlands welcomes 20 to 25 American students to the Netherlands each year through the Fulbright U.S. Student Program. Netherland America Foundation (NAF)

Founded in 1921, the NAF is the leading bilateral foundation initiating and supporting high-impact exchange between The Netherlands and the United States, including the NAF-Fulbright Fellowships and programs in the arts, business, public policy and historic preservation. NAF activities provide donors and recipients with access to a broad network of educational, cultural and business organizations that exemplify Dutch and U.S. excellence in a number of disciplines. US students may apply for Fulbright grant through the Institute of International Education. The NAF offers support for a variey of grants such as water management, childhood cancer research, and hard sciences. Please click here for more information. The Fulbright Commission proposes to the NAF which US students should get a NAF-Fulbright grant. The Board of the NAF usually accepts the proposal. All conditions for NAF supported students are the same as for other Fulbright grantees.

 

VU University Amsterdam

VU University Amsterdam is ranked among Europe’s top research universities and provides an internationally oriented community in which students can develop their full potential. Maastricht University

Maastricht University uses Problem-Based Learning, an innovative teaching method that focuses on small groups, active participation, and informal contacts between students and the academic staff. This approach to teaching, together with the international student population, gives students significant opportunities to acquire knowledge and experience from a range of different perspectives. The majority of the Bachelor’s programs and almost all of the Master’s and Ph.D. programs are taught in English. MU focuses its research on international issues critical to the development of society. MU supports the Fulbright Program by providing a Fulbright grant in any of its many Master’s programs. Radboud University Nijmegen

Radboud University Nijmegen is a student-oriented research university, situated in the oldest city of the Netherlands. Established in 1923, it is now one of the country’s leading academic communities. Radboud encourages a personal style of teaching, which offers plenty of opportunity to work closely with leading researchers and excellent teachers in small, interactive and often interdisciplinary seminars. Erasmus University Rotterdam

Erasmus University Rotterdam is a university of academics and practitioners. The enterprising academic and students endeavor to solve global social challenges in the fields of wealth, health, governance and culture. They draw inspiration from the metropolis, which serves as both a testing ground and a laboratory. The university was founded in 1913, when a group of Rotterdam businessmen established the Netherlands School of Commerce to meet the growing demand for skilled personnel for the companies operating in the port of Rotterdam. Later it changes its name and achieved world fame in economics and econometrics, under the guidance of renowned scholars like Nobel Prize winner Jan Tinbergen. The university has always had an international character. Anyone who studies at Erasmus University – more than 22,000 students – is in fact already doing an international program. Rotterdam is a world port city with and international life that goes with it. The grant made available by the university is names after Dr. Suzana Rodrigues, who taught at the university for many years. American Friends of the Mauritshuis

The Royal Picture Gallery Mauritshuis is internationally known as one of the most important collections of seventeenth-century Dutch and Flemish paintings. Its conservation studio has demonstrated a commitment to technical research and advanced training opportunities. The University of Amsterdam is the only university in The Netherlands offering a study program in Conservation and Restoration (consisting of nine specializations). The research and restoration of objects are core aspects of the program. This grant is sponsored by the American Friends of the Mauritshuis. The purpose of the grant is to provide advanced training, research and education opportunities in paintings conservation. The grant will focus on the study, examination and treatment of works of art in the collection of the Mauritshuis, in combination with a tailor made study program at the University of Amsterdam. The grantee will gain practical experience and knowledge treating paintings in the conservation studio of the Mauritshuis, under the supervision of the conservators of the museum. The grantee will participate in workshops, (informal) lectures, symposia and other events at the university. During the grant period, research will not only include paintings in the Mauritshuis collection, but also pictures in other Dutch and/or European institutions. TU Delft Industrial Design Engineering Award

Ranked the 20th university of engineering and technology in the world by the QS World University Rankings (2017), Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) is the largest and most comprehensive university of engineering sciences in The Netherlands. With modern facilities and a rich tradition, TU Delft is leading the way in research into technological innovations and contributing to scientific advancement in the interests of society. The university resides in the beautiful historic city of Delft. The Faculty of Industrial Design Engineering is the oldest and biggest faculty in industrial design in the world. The faculty has three MSc degree programs in Industrial Design Engineering on offer:  Design for Interaction(DfI), Strategic Product Design (SPD), and Integrated Product Design (IPD). All MSc degree programs are fully taught in English and take two years of studies to complete. Approximately 25% of MSc students are from countries other than The Netherlands. The faculty has over 2000 students in industrial design alone (BSc + MSc), 200 scientific staff members and 140 PhD’s. Research is carried out in four main areas: Unlocking people, Meaningful interactions, Let’s Re(d)use and Care for our Health.
